Happy summer to us all, whether here or in northern homes. Please note the opportunities below for those of us who are local to enjoy each other’s company during the summer — Lunch Bunch and Cultured Pearls.
As you probably have heard, AAUW National’s “open membership” vote (to eliminate the degree eligibility requirement) did not pass — but narrowly. The change would have required 66.6% of the vote, and it got 65.1%. I know many of you are relieved — you wanted to keep the degree requirement — and those of you who wanted to open up membership are disappointed. Bottom line: we’ll do what we’ve always done: hold continuing education events, have fun, fund scholarships and mentor girls, while welcoming anyone in the community to attend.
This is our last Hotline until late August. Please Save the Date for our first event of the 2024-2025 season: our Season Kickoff on Saturday, September 21 at the Rowing Club at 310 Acacia Road, just under the Barber Bridge. We’ll have a tour of the amazing facility, eat BBQ lunch from 14 Bones (with a vegetarian option) and have some fun as we look forward to making next season's events successful.
